Worship Team - Next Steps Meeting Info

Thanks again for your heart to serve with the Worship Ministries. We’re excited to move forward with you!

💡 The Onboarding Process

Here’s an overview of the journey we’re walking through together:
  1. Pray and seek God’s direction about serving in worship ministry.
  2. Fill out the online interest form.
  3. Next Steps Meeting - we'll meet at the church for a relaxed conversation and play/sing some music.  For sound people, we'll give you a chance to get your hands on the board.
  4. Prayer & Reflection time - we'll take about a week to continue to pray and consider.
  5. Follow up phone call - I'll follow up with a phone call and together we'll determine if this is a good direction.
  6. Connection:  We'll get you connected to Planning Center and begin scheduling you to serve.
The next step is an informal, in-person meeting where we'll get to know each other better and explore how you might best fit into the worship team at A City On A Hill Church.  It's relaxed and personal-- no pressure and no performance vibes.

A note for women:  I don't meet alone at the church with women— my wife or another team member will also be present.
🗓️ What to Expect in the "Next Steps Meeting"
  • A friendly conversation about your background, spiritual journey, and worship ministry.
  • A chance for you to sing or play something you're comfortable with—anything that represents your musical style and strengths.
  • A time to sing/play two worship songs together from our team’s regular setlist.  These will help us see how you approach learning and leading songs in our context.
  • This meeting is typically about a half hour for voice or one instrument, but could be up to an hour if you have abilities in multiple areas.
Performance Song:
Please come prepared to perform some song or portion of a song of your choice that you are very comfortable with and you feel displays your musical ability.  This can really be anything.
Worship Songs:
Here are the 2 songs I would like you to prepare for the meeting, as though you were preparing for a team rehearsal.  The materials that I typically provide are on this page below.  If you are a harmony singer, check out the harmony demos to learn the part.  If the charts don't make a lot of sense to you, don't fret, just do what you can in a reasonable amount of time and we'll talk.
Also a quick note about the charts -- I have a particular method of writing charts which borrows from Nashville Numbers to denote timing.  If you are used to typical worship chord charts, there will be some additional markings, but you can disregard the "extras" and still read them as you are accustomed to doing.  However, if you are interested in taking advantage of the additional clarity and precision in these charts, download the explanation pdf HERE.

If you don't know or aren't comfortable with those two songs, feel free to substitute one or both with songs from the alternative song list below.  Let me know which songs you prefer and I will send you the materials.

📅 Ready to Schedule? Let me know a few times that work for you in the next week or two, and we’ll find a time that fits.  You may use the contact form below, or just text or email me directly.  [email protected] / 260.602.8118
