If you've signed up to get emails from A City On A Hill Church but aren't seeing them—or suddenly stopped getting them—this page can help. From the tool we use to send emails (called Planning Center) to how your email provider handles them to your own inbox settings, there are a few places where things can go wrong.
Below are some common issues and simple steps that can help get things working again.
🕵️♂️ 1. Emails Going to Junk or Spam
Problem:
Some email providers mistake group or bulk emails (like our church updates) for spam. This is one of the most common issues—and often easy to fix.
Solution:
- Check your Junk or Spam folder.
- If you find our emails there, mark them as “Not Junk” or move them to your inbox. This helps your provider learn to trust them in the future.
- For added protection, add these email addresses to your contacts (this is known as whitelisting):
📝 2. Double-Check Your Info in Church Center
Problem:
We maintain our email lists through Planning Center, and even small differences in your info can keep messages from reaching you.
How this can happen:
- A typo when you submitted info online.
- A typo when our team manually transferred your info from a communication card.
- A mismatch if you submitted info online using a different name or email (e.g., nickname vs. legal name, alternate email) than what we already had in the system.
Solution:
- Log in to Church Center using the email or phone number you provided us. (If one doesn't work, try the other)
- Review your contact info in Church Center for accuracy—especially your email address and name spelling.
- If you can't access Church Center, contact us
🧾 Note: Church Center doesn’t use a password. To log in, you’ll receive a temporary 6-digit code by email or text.
🔄 Not to be confused: If you serve on a team (Greeters, Ushers, Nursery, etc.), you’ll also have a separate Planning Center Services account, which does use a password. Here’s a simple way to keep it straight: Church Center is for everyone, and Services is just for those serving on a team. Active team members can get help with the Service App here.
🔒 3. Your Email May Be Blocked (or Unsubscribed) on our end
Problem:
If your email provider temporarily bounced a message (e.g., due to a full inbox or server glitch), or if they updated their definition of "spam" and flagged our messages as junk, Planning Center will automatically block your email address. In some cases, people are unsubscribed—either by mistake or unknowingly (sometimes by their own email service).
⚠️ Important Note on Unsubscribes:
Due to anti-spam laws (like CAN-SPAM), we are not allowed to re-subscribe someone without their explicit permission.
Solution:
- First, add these addresses to your contacts to help prevent future issues:
- Then contact us to see if your email may have been blocked or unsubscribed and we can initiate the unblock or re-subscribe process.
- After we start it, you’ll receive a confirmation email asking if you want to receive messages from A City On A Hill Church. Click the link in that email to confirm.
👥 4. You're Receiving Duplicate Emails
Problem:
If multiple people in your household share one email address, you might receive duplicate emails—or experience some record confusion, especially when signing up for events or serving on a team.
Solution:
- Ideally, provide separate email addresses for each person. You can update this in Church Center.
- If you prefer to share one email address, that’s ok—just be aware that occasional mix-ups can happen (especially for those serving in ministry positions).
📬 5. Not Receiving the Type of Emails You Expected?
Problem:
You’re receiving some emails but not the ones you were expecting (e.g., weekly updates vs. prayer requests).
Solution:
- Most people who give us a valid email address ask to be added to our general church email list (weekly updates, events, announcements), so this is our default.
- If you were expecting something different (like prayer updates or group-specific messages), reach out and we’ll gladly double-check your settings.
